SMS 4 Food
The 2nd team, from the Diploma in Computer Engineering, also took home a Merit Award with their idea, "SMS 4 Food". Diners in a restaurant order their food by sending an SMS with the code that is tagged to the item on the menu. The order is then electronically sent to the kitchen.
The cost of the food is then billed to their monthly phone bill. This system saves on manpower, is cashless, quicker, and in the case of fast-food restaurants, does away with messy queues at the counter. Customers can also request for information about the food item, such as its nutritional value, which will be sent to them via return SMS.
