Why Diploma in Clean Energy?
With increasing environmental concerns such as global warming and the depletion of fossil fuels, the pursuit of alternative clean and green energy sources has become extremely urgent and vital today. The promising clean energy industry, which is growing at a rate of up to 50% per year, is expected to generate an annual output of $1.7 billion and create 7,000 new jobs by 2015.
Mission
This course trains you in the Clean Energy Technologies including Photovoltaic or Solar Cells, Fuel Cells, Biomass, Hydropower and Wind Energy. Specific niche technologies that are intricately connected with the utilization of clean energy, such as electrical systems and power distribution, energy efficiency and mangement, will also be covered.
About the Course. (JAE Code: T52)
This course provides you with a strong foundation in the electronics and clean energy disciplines. Apart from the fundamental electronics subjects in the first year, the second and third year of the course will focus on the following specific clean energy technology areas:
1. Photovolatic or Solar Cell Technology
Design, simulation, fabricaton and characterization of solar cells and systems using our Class 100 cleanroom facilities. Subjects in this area include Fundamenatals of Clean Eenrgy, Semiconductor Physics and Devices, Solar Cell and System, and Renewable Energy System Integration.
2. Fuel Cell Technology
Design, fabrication and testing of fuel cells using our Clean Energy Centre facilities. Subjects in this area include Fundamentals of Clean Energy, Fuel Cell Design and Testing, and Renewable Energy System Integration.
3. Biomass, Hydropower and Wind Technology
Generation of biomass, such as biodiesel from plants, and generation of electricity using hydropower.and wind.energy. Subjects in these areas include Fundamentals of Clean Energy, Renewable Energy, and Renewable Energy System Integration.
4. Energy Efficiency and Management
Management and audit of energy efficiency including carbon trading. Subjects in this area include Energy Efficiency and Management, and Energy Audit.
5. Niche Technologies associated with Clean Energy
Storage technologies, power electroncis and electrical distribution systems are important technologies associated with clean energy technologies. Subjects in these areas include Energy Conversion and Storage Systems, Power Electronics and Drives, and Electrical System and Power Distribution.
