Infocomm Competency Unit (IFCCU)
1. IFC student projects showcased in Asian Biometric Conference & Exhibition
IFC students participated in Biometrics Standards Conformance Testing held in conjunction with the Asian Biometric Conference & Exhibition at Suntec City from 25 – 27 Sep 2007. This is an International conference with delegates from China, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia and Singapore. The students have developed two test suites to check biometric data (in particular, fingerprint and face images) generated by vendors to see if it conforms to the ISO standards.

2. XMPP IM Server (produced by IFC students)
The instant messaging server allows a set of streaming XML protocols and technologies of any two entities on the Internet to exchange messages, presence status, and other structured information. An administrative application was built together with the server so as to allow administrators to monitor the user’s activities.This instant messaging server is highly recommended for companies that wish to prevent confidential information being leaked out to external parties.

3. Diet Watchers (in collaboration with Health Promotion Board)
Diet Watchers is a mobile application to help users keep track of how much are their calories intake per dish and as well as per meal. It also provides an overview of the stored results in the device.

4. FingerScan Security System (in collaboration with NGK Software House for Bukit Panjang Government High School)
The team modified the school’s existing Secure Access Control and Time Attendance System to make it compatible with new smart cards that contain RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags, hence enhancing security and reliability. Besides being able to mark and track the attendance of students and visitors, the new system also automatically sends an email to designated teachers to alert them when a student is absent or late for school.

6. VirtualXgame Competition
TP ENG team- JBlaster has won 2nd place in the competition on Sat (3/11/2007) jointly organized by IDA, NTU and IBM. The competition took place in Nanyang Executive Centre from 9.00am-5.30pm. This is one of the National Infocomm Competition (NIC) organized by IDA. Each team needs to produce Java code during the competition, running through 4 rounds each in 3 tournaments. Our supporters have also won the Best school spirit prize.

7. Wireless Jam Competition (Mobile Surveillance Robot)
Project won a Silver plus a Special award in the enterprise category of the annual Splash Awards Wireless Jam competition.
