Mr. Cham Yew Thean

Mr Cham joined TP in 1997 as a lecturer. He is currently the Head of Power Electronic and Energy Efficiency Group as well as a Manager/Electronics in Temasek Polytechnic. He manages a team of lecturers and engineers in advanced development projects on switching power supplies, renewable energy resources and drive control technology.

Prior to TP he was a Senior Engineer with Singapore Productivity and Standards Board. He was responsible for securing business consultancy contracts from SMEs with accountability for revenue and costs.

From 1991 to 1994, he was involved in the development of high-density power supply utilising ZVS/ZCS soft-switched techniques as well as innovative power factor correction techniques in single-phase power supply.

He is a Senior Member of IEEE. He is a founder member of the IEEE Power Electronics, Drives and Systems Committee. The committee is responsible for organizing large-scale technical conferences and seminars in the Power Electronics areas for the Asia-Pacific regions. The PEDS Central committee, in collaboration with overseas organizing committees, initiated the biennial IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems.

Mr Cham areas of research interest are in switching power supplies and active power factor correction techniques.


 

Dr. Han Ming

Dr. Han Ming is a senior research scientist with Fuel Cell Community in Temasek Polytechnic (TP).

Dr Han Ming earned his PhD in Fuel cell Systems from Nanyang Technological University. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Dalian Polytechnic University and his Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Dalian University of Technology.

From 1985 to 2000, he was Head of PEMFC Group and Associate Professor, Acting Director of Fuel Cell R&D Centre, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Science, China. Prior to joining TP, he served 5 years at Singapore Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) as a researcher and 2 years secondment with Gashub Technology as a technical consultant working on fuel cell R &D at TP and Gashub Technology Joint R&D Laboratory.

Dr. Han has extensive experience in fuel cell experimental process and engineering as well as practical applications of fuel cell technology. His research interests are Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell technology, electrochemical gas sensors and electrochemical gas generators. He has published over 40 journal and conference papers, and invented 17 patents in the field of PEMFC.



  

Mr. Jia Junbo

Mr. Jia has more than 15 years of work experience in the field of electrical and automation engineering. He had developed an electrical testing application program using Database Management System and Visual C++. The program has been used in the testing system of mobile substation testing coach on the electrical railways in China.

He has experience of doing research work on intelligent control and developing software and hardware for micro-controller unit. Now he is developing High Power Programmable DC-DC Converter with his students.


  

Mr Shrikrishna Shankar Kulkarni

Mr Kulkarni has been working with TP since 1994 as a lecturer. He is actively involved with Power Electronic and Energy Efficiency Group projects in Temasek Polytechnic. His expertise is in the area of switching power supplies, renewable energy, digital Control of Power Electronic Systems.


After graduating in electrical engineering from University of Mumbai in 1974, he completed his M.Tech. in electrical engineering with specialization in Controls and Instrumentation from Indian Institute of Technology-Mumbai in 1977. Since then he worked with reputed Indian companies in the field of R&D and teaching. In 1991 he joined Energy Efficiency Research Centre, an Australian research centre at University of Wollongong as a Research Engineer and worked on various projects in Power Electronics and Instrumentation.

In 2004, he undertook a consultancy work with a leading MNC, Emerson Network Power (India) Ltd. as a Principal Software Consultant to develop digitally controlled UPS in the power range of up to 50 KVA. This project aimed at international market with stringent performance requirement such as very low total harmonic distortion in the output waveform with highly non-linear loads and facility to parallel up to six UPS with very low circulating currents. This product was successfully developed and resulted in the development of Paradigm range of UPS. In 2006 He joined corporate R&D of another MNC, Crompton Greaves Ltd-Mumbai to develop microcontroller based controllers for BLDC motors to be used in scooters which is a drive for clean energy initiative to replace petrol driven two wheelers in India.


He areas of  interest is  in the  development of electric vehicle technology, DSP applications in Power Electronics and development of low cost Grid connected inverters for fuel cell applications.

Dr Zhou Weijiang

Dr. Zhou Weijiang, a research scientist, is currently working at the fuel cell application center of Temasek Polytechnic (FCC@TP).

He graduated from Dalian University of Technology with a bachelor degree of chemical engineering and obtained his Ph.D. (physical chemistry and fuel cells) from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Science in 2003.

After gradated from DICP with P&G Award for Outstanding Graduate Students, he joined National University of Singapore (NUS) and worked as a research fellow (A) before joined Temasek Polytechnic (TP).

His area of interest is in the field of fuel cell material development and electrochemical reactions such as electrooxidation of methanol, ethanol, formic acid, CO, and electrochemical reduction ofoxygen.


  

Dr Liu Yonghao

Dr. Liu Yonghao received his Bachelor from Dalian University of Technology in 1999 and his Ph.D in electrochemical engineering in 2006 from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

His current research is focused on the composite membranes used for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) and Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs). In his research, reinforced membranes, self-humidifying membranes and high-temperature membranes were developed. The aim of his work is to produce low cost, high proton-conductivity, as well as mechanically and thermally stable membranes which are suitable for larger-scale commercial use.


  

Mr K. H. Kwan

Mr. Kwan received his B.Eng. degree with first class Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2004.  He won the IEEE Power Engineering Chapter (Singapore) Gold Medal cum Book Prize and the Singapore Power Book Prizes in 2004. A committee member of the Power Engineering Chapter of IEEE Singapore Section, his research interests are active filters, power electronics, power quality, control theory and renewable technology.

Mr. Au Wing Kong, Eric

Mr. Au has more than 20 years of industrial and teaching experience. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPeng), Institute of Engineer, Australia.

He is interested in developing the motor drives and power supply. At the moment, he is  developing the dc-dc converter using flat transformer technology, Synchronous Rectification low voltage power supply, Class D amplifier and solar panel simulator.


 

Mrs Kit Ai Hwa

She graduated fromUniversity of Essex in UK with BSc (Hons) degree.

She has several years of industrial experience mainly in microcontroller firmware development.

Currently she is a lecturer in the Diploma of Electronics/Computer Engineering, teaching subjects like Computer Programming, Microcontroller Technology and Engineering Fundamentals.She is also involved in projectssuch asbuilding applications for Palm and Pocket PC, anddeveloping firmware in ASM/C for embedded systems.


  

Dr. Zhu Shihe

Dr. Zhu is an experienced teaching staff. He started his career as a secondary school teacher in 1972; later he taught students at every level including undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and trainees. He obtained his master degrees from China and Belgium universities respectively. In 1993, he obtained his Ph.D. from KUL, Belgium. In 1980’s and 1990’s, he worked in a Chinese university.as lecturer and associate professor.

He joined Temasek Polytechnic in 1997. He has been a member of the European Power Electronics Society and a senior member of the Chinese Electronics Institution.

Dr. Zhu’s interested areas include power electronics, electrical machines and drives, and control systems engineering


  

Mr. Khaw Boon Hai, Tony

Mr. Khaw has more than 12 years experience in maintaining electrical control and distribution systems. His interest is in renewable energy and energy efficiency systems. He is now working on low voltage, high current dc-dc converters as well as power factor improvement for energy efficiency.

Kannurao Sudha has a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Institution of Engineers (India) and a Master of Engineering in Power Electronics from Anna University, Chennai, India. She also has a Master of Engineering by Research from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

She has 15 years of industrial as well as teaching experience. Prior to joining TP, she has been involved in development of Uninterrupted Power Supplies in India and also has teaching experience in India and Malaysia.

Currently she is developing the dc-dc converter for Fuel Cell applications.


  

Mdm Ramachandran, Maya

Maya Ramachandran received her B.Sc in Electrical Engineering from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, India in 1982 and M.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India in 1993. She has 18 years of industrial experience in premier R& D organizations in India and Singapore. Her areas of expertise are low noise analog front end design, multichannel data  acquisition systems, high-speed fibre optic links for SONAR applications and pre-processor IC design and laser automatic power control for optical storage. She is a member of the SPIE and the Institution of Engineers (India).

Currently she is working on interfacing Fuel Cells with LEDS for lighting applications

Mr Loh Yue Thong was closely involved in the procurement and maintenance of military and naval communication systems.

In addition, he has more than 15 years of lecturing and teaching experience in Electronics and also has a strong interest in engineering business management, leadership, entrepreneurship development and financial management.

He was also trained as a NS infantry officer in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and was a Commanding Officer of an NS Battalion.

Mr. Low Kian Mong

Mr. Low joined TP in 1996 as a lecturer. He is currently a Section Head/Electronics in Temasek Polytechnic.

Prior to TP he was a Senior Engineer with Deference Science Organisation. He was responsible for System Integration and Testing as well as Power Supply System Design and Development.

His areas of interest include switching power supplies, analogues simulation.
