The Aerospace Industry: Today & The Future

The Aerospace industry is a significant contributor to the Singapore economy and the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business offers many employment opportunities in a range of services, ranging from MRO in airframe to avionics systems.

According to an EDB’s update, the aerospace MRO industry is experiencing strong growth, powered by an expanding global commercial aircraft fleet which is expected to expand at the rate of  4.3% per year over the next 10 years. The Asia Pacific region, in particular, is expected to see even stronger growth in the number of aircrafts, averaging  6.6% per year to reach  6,500 aircrafts by the year 2018.

The performances of the Aerospace Industry since year 1995 till today is clearly illustrated below:

A Career in Aerospace Engineering - Our MTN(AE) Graduates in SAESL

Meet our two former Aerospace students, Peter Fernandes and Cindy Ng who are currently working at SAESL.
Both of them are the pioneer batch of students who took our Aerospace Engineering option and graduated in March 2006.

Peter is attending a Part/time Bachelor of Technology (Mech) degree in NUS
while Cindy is thinking of enrolling for part-time Degree in Aerospace in SIM.

We had a chat with Peter for his take on Aerospace Engineering:

What are the prospects for aerospace engineering?
“Jobs are available, and growth in general aviation is expected to be strong for the next decade or so.”

What advice would you have for new students thinking of doing Aerospace?
“The Aerospace industry requires people with high commitment. It is a rewarding career, but you must be prepared to work hard”.

Pamela Koh : "I Believe I Can Fly"

Pamela Koh Su Hsien is another former Temasek Engineering School student who took Aerospace Engineering option and graduated in 2006.

Today, she is literally on cloud nine. She is enjoying every moment of her Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering programme at the University of Sydney, Australia. "My Poly Diploma allows me to pursue a career in Aerospace, or to fall back on my strong Mechatronics foundation. There's flexibility", she reasons.

With her strong Aerospace background from Temasek Engineering School, Pamela managed to obtain a one-year exemption from her degree programme at the University of Sydney.
