1. Why is this Diploma offered?

This Diploma was developed in response to the industry’s demand for more highly trained aviation professionals and to provide the expertise required for Singapore to maintain its status as the premium aviation hub in Asia Pacific

For Singapore Aviation to remain at the forefront of the aviation industry there must a steady stream of new bright young specially trained professionals to continue Singapore’s proud aviation heritage and take it to the next level of excellence.

2. What is this Diploma about?

This 3 year full time international business diploma, the only one of its kind in Asia, will equip you with a broad range of specialised skills and knowledge to meet the various needs and challenges across aviation industry; from managing world class airports, and airlines to operating the next generation passenger aircrafts and “spaceports” that will send passengers beyond the stars. Aspiring pilots can also learn to fly an aircraft.

3. How is this Diploma different from other business and engineering diplomas?

This diploma teaches you both essential international business skills in a curriculum designed around the recognized competencies required by the aviation industry. It provides students with a holistic approach to “real” life management of aviation facilities, systems and human resources that is endorsed by the key players in the aviation industry.

4. Will I be able to find jobs after I graduate?

Most definitely! Aviation is an international business that spans six continents, and works across all cultures and national boundaries. Therefore, the skills you acquire in this course can be easily transported and applied globally. With the anticipated exponential growth of the aviation industry in Singapore and across the region which will see air travel double in size to 870 million passengers by 2014, there will be ample jobs available in this industry

For example, the planned redevelopment of Seletar Aerospace Park alone in Singapore will create 10,000 jobs by 2018.

In addition, this diploma programme will place promising students with prospective employers in the aviation industry upon graduation.

5. What if I do not wish to build my career in aviation?

The internatiol business and aviation training you receive in this course, while having an aviation focus, is highly transferable to jobs in many other business and engineering related industries such as events management, sales and marketing, customer service, hospitality and tourism, facility management to name a few.

6. What is the JAE code for this course?

The JAE code of this course is T04 but you can find this diploma listed with the other business courses in your JAE Information Booklet.

7.Besides JAE and DAE, what other avenues do i have to join this Diploma?

With effect from 2011, applicants may also apply to AMS through the Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE). This is a Special Admission Exercise open up to all students who have strong interests in AMS but may not meet the COP. However, in anticipation of the high demand, you need to place AMS T04 as your first choice under JAE in order to be shortlisted under JPSAE.

Shortlisted students will be required to undergo an aptitude assessment and interview.

8 What kind of students are we looking for?

We are looking for a special breed of student with a track record of leadership and high achievement, both academically and in ECAs to join our diploma. If you are a self-starter, with drive, imagination, a passion for aviation and committed to the pursuit of excellence, we are looking for you to join us and revolutionise Singapore Aviation.

9.What is the Cut off points (COP) to enter this Diploma and what is the intake size?

The Cut Off Points was 10 in 2010 and 11 in 2011, these points are only indicative and changes from year to year. Please note that the points are nett and after deductions. For example if you have 13 points for L1B2R2 and A2 for CCA, your nett point is 11.

The intake size is 150 students.

10. What are the requirement for the Aeronautical Science option?

Students should have eyesight of not more than 500 degrees per eye, correctable to 6/9 and must not be colour blind. Height requirement varies between organization. For the Republic of Singapore Air Force, their height requirement is between 165cm to 190cm. They would also be required to pass medical and aptitude tests.
