A short video on Diploma in Clean Energy
Why Diploma in Clean Energy?
With increasing environmental concerns such as global warming and the depletion of fossil fuels, the pursuit of alternative clean and green energy sources has become extremely urgent and vital today. The promising clean energy industry, which is growing at a rate of up to 50% per year, is expected to generate an annual output of $1.7 billion and create 7,000 new jobs by 2015.
Temasek Polytechnic is host to the Clean Energy Testbedding Community (CETC) which is a joint initiative between Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and supported by Singapore Economic Development Board. The CETC facilitates, promotes and supports interested members from its Sustainable Development Business Group (SDBG) to plug into CETC for technology, R&D facilities and support, collaboration partners and business opportunities. It also complements the Singapore Fuel Cell Community (FCC), which is also hosted in TP, in fostering business and technological cooperation to testbed and pilot fuel cell, solar energy and other clean energy technologies and applications for adoption.
Mission
This course trains you in the Clean Energy Technologies including Photovoltaic or Solar Cells, Fuel Cells, Biomass, Hydropower and Wind Energy. Specific niche technologies that are intricately connected with the utilization of clean energy, such as electrical systems and power distribution, energy efficiency and management, will also be covered.
About the Course. (JAE Code: T52)
This course provides you with a strong foundation in the electronics and clean energy disciplines. Apart from the fundamental electronics subjects in the first year, the second and third year of the course will focus on the following specific clean energy technology areas:
1. Photovolatic or Solar Cell Technology
2. Fuel Cell Technology
3. Biomass, Hydropower and Wind Technology
4. Energy Efficiency, Management and Audit
5. Niche Technologies associated with Clean Energy

More than an Engineering Diploma!
Singapore Certified Energy Manager (ASCEM) at the associate level - In addition to your Clean Energy Diploma, you will be awarded upon graduation the Associate SCEM certificate which is jointly administered by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES). Energy Conservation Act 2013 requires companies that consume more than the equivalent of 15 GWh of energy annually to monitor and report their energy use to the National Environment Agency. Hence, the demand for ASCEM professionals.
Business Management @ ENG - Starting from Apr 2011, you will be able to take up Business Management courses while pursuing your diploma.
Certificate Programme @TP - If you do well in your first semester, you may choose to pursue an additional certificate program in a field outside your course of study.
Overseas Experience
Diploma in Clean Energy offers you excellent opportunites for overseas experience in a special and meaning way. You will get to put what you have learnt into practice through overseas community trips - installing solar cell and lighting systems in rural countries like Cambodia and Thailand, bringing them "light" and hope. There are also other clean energy relevant overseas study trips organized just for you.
