Frequently Asked Questions on Diploma in Integrated Facility Design & Management
How is this course different from other/previous similar courses?
This course, Diploma in Integrated Facility Design & Management (FDM), together with another new course from TP, Diploma in Leisure & Resort Management (LRM) is offered by TP as our response to Prime Minister Lee’s challenge to remake our city. The goal is to transform Singapore into a great city to live, work & play. This requires new mindsets and new skills. This explains why new courses are needed.
Specifically, these courses will raise up a new breed of graduates to service the Integrated Resorts and other hospitality & tourism businesses.
In addition, we take an integrated approach to the design & management of complex facilities. And our curriculum is mapped to the International Facility Management Association’s 9 competencies. Therefore, this course is largely different from other courses.
What is the difference between this course, Diploma in Integrated Facility Design & Management (FDM) and Diploma in Leisure & Resort Management (LRM)?
The difference lies in the roles they play. An analogy would be Software + Hardware. LRM would be more like the software of the computer while iFDM would be like the hardware. The computer would need both the software & hardware to perform to satisfy the user (customer). Another analogy would be the Theatre. Graduates from the LRM are the actors & actresses while graduates from iFDM are the sets & stage designers and hands. Both need to be world class to give the audience (customer) an unforgettably enjoyable experience.
Is this course like Property Management?
No, not at all! We will train you on high-level skills where you will be expected to understand the nature of the businesses that the facility houses, the psychology and physiological needs of people, as well as building sciences. This will allow you to strategize and plan on how the facilities can further enhance the businesses.
Will I be able to find jobs when I graduate?
Most definitely! The 2 Integrated Resorts are scheduled to be ready by 2009; so you will graduate just in time to contribute to the great manpower needs.
What if I do not wish to have my career built up at the Integrated Resorts?
You will be trained to manage different types of facilities besides the Integrated Resorts. Therefore, you can also build your careers in other types of facilities for the Business & Financial, Hospitality & Tourism, Leisure & Entertainment, Events & Conventions sectors.
