The Course
Microelectronics is a field of engineering that deals with the miniaturisation of electronic components. It involves the design, fabrication and testing of microcircuits or Integrated Circuits (ICs). These ICs are used extensively in computers, telecommunication equipment, audio-video products, space equipment and other electronic products.
The Microelectronics course provides you with a strong foundation in the electronics and microelectronics disciplines. Level 1 of the course is identical to that of the Diploma in Electronics course. In levels 2 and 3, apart from the core electronic subjects, the course also branches into specific microelectronics areas such as: computer-aided IC design and layout, wafer fabrication technology, IC packaging process, IC test engineering, and IC failure analysis and reliability. As much of your learning is practice oriented, you will learn by using state-of-the-art microelectronics-related equipment, through laboratory exercises, computer-aided design assignments, through mini-projects, and your major project
Career Opportunities
The course will equip you with technical skills to enable you to use basic electronics and microelectronics-related equipment competently. In addition, you will be proficient in analogue and digital systems. Besides these technical skills, you will also possess effective communication skills. All these skills will enable you to find employment in various semiconductor and electronics-related companies. Job prospects are attractive and diverse, covering design, technical support, manufacturing, sales and marketing, as well as service and maintenance.
