The Course
Mechatronics is the synergistic integration of mechanical engineering with electronics and intelligent computer control in the design of products and manufacturing processes. It includes the use of robots and automated machine tools and manufacturing systems. This course provides you with a solid foundation in electronics, mechanical engineering and computing systems. You will acquire the necessary core competencies in the areas of automation, robotics, mechatronics design, programmable logic controllers, electro-pneumatics, vision systems, computer numerical control, computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing, sensors, virtual reality, computer programming, and microcontroller and control engineering. Besides being technologically competent, you will also develop effective communication skills.
The Aerospace Engineering option will be offered to you at the start of the second year of your course and will equip you with the relevant knowledge and skills to meet the growing demands of the aerospace industry. Through this course, you will be able to acquire a strong foundation in the field of aerospace engineering and develop the core competencies that would enable you to provide engineering support in design, process development and technical services in the aerospace manufacturing and maintenance industry.
The Aerospace Engineering option prepares students to sit for at least six CAAS Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) SAR66 examination papers necessary for the granting of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Licence. These papers are
- M06 – Material And Hardware
- M07 – Maintenance Practices
- M08 – Basic Aerodynamics
- M09 – Human Factors
- M10 – Aviation Legislation
- M15 – Gas Turbine Engine
In addition, the fundamentals of the Mechatronics course will also equip students with the knowledge to attain other basic CAAS papers such as
- M01 – Mathematics
- M02 – Physics
- M03 – Electrical Fundamentals
- M04 – Electronic Fundamentals
- M05 – Digital Techniques / Electronic Instrument Systems
With the acquired qualifications, coupled with the relevant knowledge and skills, the graduates from the Aerospace Engineering option in Diploma in Mechatronics can look forward to bright prospects in the vibrant aerospace indusry.
