World Skills Singapore (WSS) Competition (October 2008)







Mechatronics students, Cheu Zikai and Ng Yong Sheng Lucas, both 19, have qualified for the WSS finals and will be representing Temasek Polytechnic in the WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) competition in October 2008.






Daniel Tay and Richmond Chiang, both 20, from Mechatronics will also represent Temasek Polytechnic to compete in the finals against the best students from other institutions both locally and around the world in the WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) competition in October 2008


World Skills Singapore (WSS) Competition 2006

Temasek Polytechnic was represented by 6 students from Diploma in Mechatronics, they won 1 silver in the Mechatronics category of biennial World Skills Singapore (WSS) competition held from July 2006.

The competition requires participants to assemble and program factory automation system comprising mechanical, electronic, electrical, and pneumatic equipment based on diagrams and instructions provided, as quickly and accurately as possible.

The World Skills Singapore event symbolizes the pinnacle of excellence in practical skills training. Hundreds of students compete by pitting their skills in various trades against demanding international standards.

These six Mechatronics students have gone through a series of training provided by MDC-CU. The scope of training includes the assembly, wiring, programming of PLC and trouble shooting.

2006 ASEAN Virtual Instrumentation Applications Paper Contest

Temasek Polytechnic submitted 2 papers to 2006 ASEAN Virtual Instrumentation Applications Paper Contest. One of the papers written by 3 students from Diploma in Mechatronics won Honorary Mention in the Academic category. It is the second top prize among a total of 5 winners.

The paper contest is an Asian-wide, annual competition organized by National Instruments (NI). Engineers, industrial professionals and researchers from institutions over the Asia are invited to submit their most innovative solutions and systems in the form of technical papers for the annual event. In the year 2006, the contest attracted the participation from 48 local  and foreign academic institutions as well as industrial participants.

Temasek Engineering School performed best among the 5 Polys at the annual Singapore Robotic Games held from 16 to 19 Jan 2007.

Its students grabbed 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal to emerge the overall best performer at the competition. Mechatronics staff and students contributed to win two of the Gold medals.

Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors Award 2007

Temasek Engineering School won a total of 8 prizes in the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventor's Award 2007. Mechatronics staff and students won one Silver, one Merit and one Commendation award.

A canteen table using the food tray acting as the table top

Bicycle Parking System (Commendation Award)

A bicycle stand that can be fully retracted below the ground to conserve space when not in use.

Greenwave Environmental Competition 2006

Paper Multiplier (Commendation Award)

Three Mechatronics students clinched a Commendation Award. Their invention, the "Paper Multiplier", converts writing paper into hand towels, without going through the conventional paper recycling process of pulping. Its working principle is using two specially textured rollers to wrinkle and perforate paper passing between them.
