ENG Student Development Roadmap

As an engineering student, you are given ample opportunities to achieve success in your academic, personal and professional development in the school. To realize your full potential, you are encouraged to participate actively in the variety of programs designed for you. This student development roadmap shows you how your developmental needs are provided as you journey through the 6 semesters in ENG school.
A Care Person (CP) will be assigned to help you through the journey in school. He will provide care and guidance in matters pertaining to your academic, personal and professional developments in school. He will meet you in the APEL (Applied Principles for Effective Living) and Care Group interaction classes from Level 1 to Level 3.
Level 1 – Theme: Discovering Identity
In this level, you will discover more about yourself, your personality profile and how it impacts your learning style. Programs and activities are focus on building a sense of identity in the class, diploma, school and TP.
Examples of such activities are:-
- Orientation programs,
- Campus Care Network,
- Open House and
- Sports etc
Level 2 – Theme: Expanding Horizons
In this level, you will be given opportunities to serve in as leaders in the student clubs, interest groups, community service and sports etc. There are also opportunities for overseas community projects and exchange programs to enrich your learning experience. There are competitions in school, within Poly and outside Poly where you can pitch your knowledge and skills with your competitors.
Some examples of competitions are:
- Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award
- Singapore Robotics Games
- Worldskills competitions
- Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan etc
Level 3 – Theme: Post Diploma Options
In this level, you will explore opportunities for career and higher education. You will experience industrial attachments and projects in the real working environment. Career equipping skills like job interviews, resume writing and grooming are designed in the curriculum. Higher education talks and job fairs will be organized for the students.
What must students do?
In order to maximize your potential in ENG school, you are encouraged to do the following:
- Take charge of your own development as you participate in the various programs/ activities.
- Set personal goals in each level of your study. Review them with your Care Person regularly.
- Reflect on your learning and development.
- Compile evidences of your achievements and the skills you have developed in your portfolio.
Remember: Don’t just focus on your academic achievement; it is also important that you pick up and showcase skills vital for today’s workforce.
